Hello from the Herb Farm
Nice to see you here today.
Nancy's Meadow Herbs has been growing seasonal herbs for garden centers and restaurants for over twenty years.
We started in 1986 with 50' long raised beds of all the basic culinary herbs and edible flowers. At that time fresh herbs, beyond basil and parsley that is,  were not being used by the chefs in our area. It was a rewarding experience to be able to  offer a wider selection of culinary flavors and colors to help our chefs enhance the restaurant menu.  Now, twenty some years later, fresh herbs are a must in most quality restaurants.

We re-focused on greenhouse grown potted herbs for a wholesale garden center market in the late 80's adding medicinal and landscape herbs to our plant list.   We now offer around 135 varieties of potted herbs to the Wisconsin/Illinois garden center market.  We are not high tech; we personally handle each herb from seeding, planting, watering, grooming to delivery. We take great pride in our herbs and grow them with care.   Our potted herb season is from early April until the end of June. Check out our plant list.

Two years ago, Nancy's Meadow opened it's farm to retail sales for herbs and succulents.  At that time the "Crones Nest", an herbaria suppling essential oils, dried herbs and spices, herbal products, also opened. The Crones Nest holds monthly classes and workshops. We also accept off site lecture engagements.  Take a look at our lecture and workshop page.

The landscape design (or lack of) around the farm led to the writing of  "Inside Out Gardening"  by Terry. His book was published in 2006.  You can order a copy of the book at terry@prairieherbs.com. His  concept of creating an intimate, relaxing and environmentally healthy home grounds, without the use of a lawn mower, can be seen around our home.   We use a "No till" system of gardening in our herbal display gardens and allow many herbs (which are thought of by many as weeds) grow to maturity around the farm.   While in Hawaii a few years ago we joined other growers and studied "Natural farming" ( www.janongfarms.com techniques and have put some of those ideas into practice.   Garden and other interested clubs can schedule tours of our grounds throughout the summer. Visit our literature page.

A hobby of growing epiphyllum (orchid cacti) and indoor bonsai expanded into retail too.  We now have cacti and succulents, epiphyllum and bonsai on display and for sale in the greenhouses. Visit our plant page.

Our newest venture, Micro green production, takes us full circle.  We are back growing for the chefs again.
We now wholesale Micro and Baby Greens  throughout the year.  To become a wholesale customer please email us at herbalanna@tds.net. for more information visit the micro green page

Retail hours begin mid-April and run through August.  We offer tours of our "no till" herb gardens, plant and herbal workshops and classes and  we have summer outdoor concerts. (See the concert page)   Plan a visit and experience life without lawn mowers and weed eaters.

If you would like to be added to our newsletter email list please let us know.
